Little Mac Boxing Gym offers a genuine, old-school boxing environment in North Bergen, NJ—home turf to both James “Cinderella Man” Braddock and modern champion Danny “Little Mac” McDermott. Rather than a spa-style fitness center, our facility is designed for serious training: you’ll find vintage fight posters lining the walls and classic heavy-bags and speed-bags ready for work.
Located just a few blocks from the site where Braddock stunned the world in 1935 by defeating Max Baer to claim the heavyweight crown, Little Mac Boxing carries on that blue-collar fighting spirit. Gym founder Danny McDermott was born and raised in North Bergen and turned professional in January 2005. Over a decade of competition, he compiled a 12-5-2 record over 19 bouts, capturing the WBU Super Lightweight World Championship and the WBC Silver Super Lightweight Asia title between 2014 and 2016 EverybodyWikiboxerlist.com.
As a protégé of Hall of Famer Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, McDermott learned the “sweet science” from one of boxing’s most electrifying figures, and he brings that lineage to every class. In 2023, the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame inducted McDermott in recognition of his three world-level titles and his contributions as a coach and community leader HudPost.
Beyond adult classes, Little Mac Boxing runs the Little Mac Youth Program for Hudson County children and oversees North Bergen’s recreational boxing league. Danny also co-founded Palisades Motion Pictures, leveraging his storytelling passion to produce documentaries about boxing’s greatest moments and fighters.
Step into Little Mac Boxing Gym and you’ll immediately sense the difference—a hardworking, no-frills training ground where champions are made, and where every punch is powered by North Bergen’s rich boxing legacy.
